I have followed this case extensively and there is NO WAY Michael Porter killed Kelsey. First of all, why would a man who supposedly killed his step-daughter do it when he KNEW he had a friend coming by to look at some tires he had for sale? He had approximately 15 or 20 minutes alone with Kelsey before he found her blue and an ambulance arrived on the scene. The injuries inflicted on Kelsey would have taken approximately 2 hours to claim her life. Autopsy reports state that the anal tear and bruising could have also been inflicted by kicking her or punching her.
Raye Dawn had Kelsey dressed that day and ready for the visit with DHS and a trip to her maternal grandmothers home to watch a movie. At 1:30 pm when the DHS worker left Kelsey, she was happy and fine. When Mike Porter arrived home at around 2:45 he found Raye Dawn and Kelsey in bed. Raye Dawn had stated to authorities that she gave Kelsey rasins and told her that momma was tired and was going to lay down. Side note...what kind of mother tells a 2 year old she is going to go lay down. Any mother in her right mind knows they can't leave a 2 year old unattended while they catch a cat nap. Raye Dawn opened her eyes as Mike croutched next to the bed and told Raye Dawn to go ahead a sleep, that he would go and pick up his daughter Whittney from school. Raye Dawn got out of bed and said NO, I will go get her. Then she started talking about a turtle she and Kelsey supposedly looked at earlier after the DHS worker left and called Mike out to the porch. Mike believes now, in hindsight, that she was trying to get Mike out of the room because she knew she had seriously injuried Kelsey and wanted to get out of there before she died and she could then blame it on Mike. As she drove off she yelled to Mike, "Take care of my baby". Mike thought that was strange as she had never said that before when she left him with Kelsey.
There is NO way Mike had enough time to sexually abuse and beat Kelsey. She died in his arms. I believe in my heart of hearts that Kelsey was already at deaths door when Mike arrived home from work and that Raye Dawn KNEW IT! I think Raye Dawn lost her temper when poor little Kelsey didn't want to go to sleep when momma was tired...even though she had just got up at 9:30 am and mom tries to put her down for a nap 4 hours later!
I think Raye Dawn killed her little girl. I don't think she meant to but she did it and then she pinned it on Mike, of this I am fairly convinced. On the other hand, I also believe Mike had abused Kelsey in the past, possibly even sexually but he definately didn't deliver the final blow that took that innocent little girls life that fateful day in October.
In summation, I would say they are both where they belong, I just wish someone would have been held responsible for actually murdering her. One of them definately did it and I'm almost totally convinced that it was Raye Dawn Smith
